Today, the foolishness of the cross is the certainty of the cross

Back then, the foolishness of the cross was the shame of the cross. The cross was a symbol of shame and disgrace in the ancient world, but that’s not necessarily true for us today. We wear a cross around our necks; we put crosses on our buildings; we even tattoo crosses on our skin! So, is the cross still foolish? Yes, but for different reasons. Today, the foolishness of the cross is the certainty of the cross. We’re certain that righteousness only comes from Jesus Christ. We’re certain that the truth of the gospel applies equally to all persons. We’re certain that Jesus Christ is the only way to true life. Today, the foolishness of the cross is the certainty of the cross and so live in that certainty!
